In a letter to Michael Tucker, the South Carolina Deputy Director of Medical Services Ms. Felicity Myers stated “we have decided to cease coverage of routine infant male circumcision, effective February 1, 2011.”

South Carolina becomes the 17th State to terminate funding by Medicare for infant circumcision.

The Deputy Director apparently had discussions with the American Academy of Pediatrics, and came to the conclusion that the State of South Carolina could not longer afford to fund a cosmetic medical procedure on non-consenting infant boys.
