Australian Medical Association Says No To Circumcision

Professor John Kolbe President of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians reiterates the groups anti-circumcision stance.  In an interview in the Daily Telegraph he states, “The position of the RACP is that the frequency of diseases modifiable by circumcision, the level of protection offered by circumcision and the complication rates of circumcision do not warrant routine infant circumcision in Australia and New Zealand.” He also goes on to say, ” At this point in time, there is very little evidence that newborn circumcision halts the spread of HIV. The US, as highlighted in the story, has one of the highest infant circumcision rates in the Western world and has a HIV problem that continues to grow. The evidence, including the evidence from Sydney, is very clear that even adult circumcision has little impact upon the spread of HIV among men.”
